Mistral World Championships - Day 1

by Mark Royo Celano 15 Feb 2000 09:43 GMT

Amit Inbar of Israel runner-up in ’98, leads the World Windsurfing Championship Mar del Plata 2000 after two regattas, being held today in front of Varese Beach here.

Argentine Carlos Mauricio Espínola – silver medal in Atlanta ’96 – is second with nine points, followed by Brazilian Ricardo Santos and Spain’s Iván Pastor also with nine points.

Israel’s Inbar said that the South Atlantic sea is similar to the Mediterranean such as Haifa and Tel Aviv courses. Thus, the team trained at the Mediterranean coming to Mar del Plata a month before. Inbar also showed his skill finishing first in the South American Championship, last January.

In the women’s section, Lise Vidal of France leads after two regattas with four points followed by Olympic champion Lee Lai Shan of Hong Kong with also four points.
