Hobie 405 Inlands at Notts County Sailing Club

by Andy Wood 22 Jun 2004 08:30 BST 19-20 June 2004

A cold and blustery morning greeted the 405 inland championships hosted by the excellent race management of Notts County SC with 7 races over the weekend of 19th/20th June.

Race 1 was keenly contested but Will Twemlow and Andy Bath fought hard to earn a well deserved lead which left Andy Wood and his crew Ali McInnes and Sophie White and James Foskett to battle for second place. Sophie/James eventually taking second.

Race two saw Sophie and James, in a varying wind, pull away from the fleet. As the wind increased the fleet caught up and eventually Andy/Ali took the lead but as the wind died off they were pipped on the last leg by Sophie/James. Will/Andy took third and Sophie Tuckwood/Holly Jones fourth.

After a delay due to lack of wind and then a big wind shift Races 3/4, sailed back to back, were closely contested with Tom Foskett and Tim Needham beginning to show form. Will/Andy managed to win race 3 but Sophie/James took race 4 to lead the championship at the end of day one.

On a wet Sunday morning racing began in medium winds.Races 5/6, sailed back to back, saw Will/Andy take command of the event with two straight wins.

The final race of the weekend was well fought out but yet again Will/Andy pulled away from the fleet leaving Andy/Ali to contest the lower placings, with Nick Ward and Tom Wright posting their best result only to be disqualified after a protest! Sophie/James were thus elevated to third with Hannah Burywood/Pete Pereira fourth.

Everyone had a great weekend despite the weather with the party at the Tuckwoods raising spirits on Saturday night. Will/Andy ran out deserved 2004 Inland Champions with a consistent series.
