ISAF World Sailing Championships live on Sail TV

by Yvonne Reid 5 Jul 2007 17:08 BST 9-13 July 2007

Sail TV, the world’s internet television channel, has been appointed as the exclusive Live Broadcaster for the ISAF World Sailing Championships. The channel will be broadcasting live coverage of the Medal Races for two hours daily from 9th to 13th July. Live coverage will not be available on television or any other internet platform and Sail TV is proud to be offering this exclusive opportunity to sailing fans around the world.

With 1,500 sailors from over 70 countries competing for 11 World Championship titles, the ISAF World Sailing Championships is the largest sporting event of its kind outside the Olympic Games. It is an important, and for some countries, the final qualifying event for the Beijing Olympics next year.

Andy Steward, Sail TV’s Managing Director said, “Following the tremendous success of our coverage at the 32nd America’s Cup in Valencia, in conjunction with AmericasCupAnywhere by Alcatel-Lucent, we are delighted to be broadcasting the ISAF World Championship to our growing global audience. The addition of this high profile event to our schedule demonstrates the importance of broadband television as a distribution platform for sailing. It also illustrates the progress Sail TV has made, with a growing global audience, and that the channel is now widely acknowledged as the world’s leading provider of sailing content online”.

The channel will be providing two modes of coverage from Cascais, with a daily news update which is free to view, and live programming coverage of the event will be available for a one-off payment of 4.99 Euros for the five days of coverage, though may be free through potential sponsorship. The Live show will then be available once ‘off-air’ to subscribers if they wish to watch the show later.

Claire Frost of ISAF added "Sail TV offers instant access to a range of events and classes within our sport and ISAF is pleased to be working with the channel in delivering coverage of the ISAF Worlds to an international audience."
