“The technology of the America’s Cup continuously raises the bar for hardware design,” commented Dan Rondeau, new products manager. “The Black Magic® Loop Series is the latest innovation to trickle down from the Cup and benefit all Big Boat sailors.”
This block features a soft loop attachment, which is an attachment concept that has come directly from America’s Cup and Grand Prix racing. The soft loop is loaded on a closed bail in the center of the sheave and is the structural component that takes the primary load.
As well as giving a significant weight saving the soft loop attachment allows the block to articulate for a fair lead ensuring the block’s bearing system is operating at top efficiency. Sculpted sideplates and unique captive lashing system prevents the block from capsizing during intermittent loading situations.
There is a 125 mm versions of the Black Magic® Loop blocks coming soon. All blocks are made of strong, lightweight sculpted 6061-T6 aluminum that has been CNC-machined to remove excess weight. The thin-profile, deep-groove aluminum sheave has radiused edges to protect high-tech line. Sheaves and sideplates are deep-saturation Hardkote-anodized and UV-stabilized with black additive for maximum protection. The Torlon® roller bearings are housed in a center cage and separated to provide less friction, greater strength and reduced wear.
