Hobie 405 Nationals at Holyhead Sailing Club - Day 2

by Bob Tuckwood 3 Aug 2004 08:33 BST Monday 2nd August 2004

Sunshine and a force 2/3 wind got the fleet off to a great start for the first of the days 4 races. Mark Landry and Peter Lang got away and led from start to finish.

In race 2 Mark and Peter again started well but were overhauled on the first downwind leg by Will Twemlow and Andy Bath who pulled out a good lead. Huw Humphries and Max Todd used their local knowledge to effect and finished 3rd after a poor first beat.

For race 3 Huw and Max now had the bit between their teeth and led all the way round, making good use of the changing tide. Mark and Peter were showing their consistancy by getting another second with Andreas Eiskjer and Jesper Nors starting to show good boatspeed finishing 3rd.

In race 4 the positions changed during this race with the wind getting more fickle and some sailors getting the tide right. Nick Ward and Tom Wright sailed well to win with Andreas and Jesper finishing second. The race was shortened after the wind died completely and then shifted 180 deg.

After the first day Mark and Peter have a clear lead never being out of the top 3. The stage is set for a good weeks competition with lots of close racing.
