The weekend of the 23rd and 24th July, saw 19 skiffs taking part in the fourth round of the Scottish Skiff series at Derwent Reservoir Sailing club. A wide range of skiffs took part ranging from a foiling Moth, to 49ers. The biggest single class was the Musto Skiff wth eight skiffs taking part, with two skiffs travelling down from Aberdeen.
The weekend sailing took part in a moderate to light Northerly wind, in warm sunny conditions, with Saturday giving the stronger and more consistent wind.
Saturday's racing under the expert management of Howard Steavenson used the bottom half of the reservoir. For the sailors it was all a matter of being on the right side of the shifting wind and being in a wind pressure. The wind was strong enough for some full wiring downwind legs.
A barbeque on Saturday evening in warm balmy conditions rounded off a day of good close racing.
The Northerly wind was lighter and a little more shifty on Sunday. The wind shifts and areas of wind pressure producing some interesting racing.
The 49er of the Lyons team from Ulswater were the quickest on the water, and quickest on handicap, with the Musto's of Alastair Conn, John Evans and Jethro Gebhard finishing in the next three places.
