Olton Mere Sailing Club in the heart of Solihull welcomed the Midland Teras to their first Area Championship. The club put on a fantastic display of organisation and had all possibilities covered except the wind.

The Mere proved to be a difficult beast to handle as the light wind was hiding at the far end and was bending and shifting all the time. Race Officer Michael Roberts and his team clearly had it all under control as the four race series was delivered well on time.

In the Pro Race Harry Jones took control with good roll tacks and a position well forward in the boat the order of the day, he was being pushed hard by James Oakley and Charlotte Ormerod, James pushed hard in race two and almost caught Harry napping on the line, a quick break for Lunch and Charlotte came out on a charge to win race 3, the win looked like Harrys but the rest of the places were up for grabs, Matt Smith lead on the first lap but got caught out by the mere and dropped down to 4th, James benefited and moved ahead of Charlotte to secure 2nd. The Pro race turned out to be a real tight battle throughout between the top 4 and the mere.

In the sport race Roscoe Martin showed why he is the current European Champion with an outstanding performance, he finished consistently just behind the pros and was in complete control, the race for 2nd was a much tighter battle between Jack Oakley who held 2nd before the lunch break and George Sunderland who upped his game in race 3, bettered the wind shifts and pushed Jack Back to 3rd.

Midland Champions:

  • RS Tera Pro Champion: Harry Jones (Draycote Water Sailing Club)
  • RS Tera Sport Champion: Roscoe Martin (Ogston Sailing Club)
  • RS Tera Ten & Under Champion: Jack Oakley (Grafham Water Sailing Club)
Thanks go to Fiona Newby and all at Olton Mere for Hosting such a great event.
