First blood to Barton
The competitors for the first race of the Lymington Town Sailing Club's Perisher Series were greeted by a rather drab January morning with a fitful 8-10 knots of breeze from the east. However, with high water coinciding with the start time there was adequate space for the thirty-seven boats to jockey for position on the line.
All boats got away to a clean start for a reach out of the river and a fairly quick downwind leg to West Mark (Scott Bailey). The return journey was considerably slower given the building ebb tide and fickle breeze. The now fragmented fleet all found their way back to the river after rounding 'Cross Boom', but those with spinnakers quickly asserted and this was reflected in the results after numbers were crunched.
The RS400 of Pete Barton and Dave Ellis were clear winners from another RS400 sailed by Rob and Jan Martin. Third spot went to Stewart and Jade Bowen in their RS200.
The LTSC Perisher Series continues throughout January and February with an 11:00hrs start from the LTSC river line. Sailors from visiting clubs are most welcome and further details can be obtained from the Sailing Secretary on 01590 674514.
