Great day for Bigamist
After the two windward / leeward races today, with winds of 7-15 knots and with a course of 8.4 miles, Bigamist from Ana Mendonça is first overall with 3 points, followed by Noticia IV of Luis Martin Cabiedes with 4 points, and Horacio Pavez Mitsubishi with 6 points.
In the early morning the day was completely cloudy with some downpours that were dispelled during the morning to begin at 13h with the first windward / leeward that ended with Bigamist in first position, a great result for the team who are facing the big loss of Pedro Mendonça, owner of the boat. Mitsubishi remain second and Noticia IV third.
The second race of the day saw the rise of Glen Ellen 22 from fifth position to third. This race ended with the Spanish Noticia IV finishing first and the Portuguese Bigamist second.
'Chuny' Bermudez de Castro, a crew member of Bigamist told us: "It is always good to start well. Although it is a small fleet there is enough quality and we fight for every length. The Soto 40 is a tough boat because everyone races equally, you have to get the right trim and choose the right side because there is always plenty of equality. We are very pleased to have begun with a first and a second position, but there are four days left and we must continue and improve more."
The 34th Copa del Rey MAPFRE is organized by the Real Club Nautico de Palma and is held until Saturday, August 8th.
