ARE YOU READY FOR THE NEW SEASON?
It's a busy time of year preparing your boat for the sailing season ahead. To help you tick everything off, we have compiled a list of the things we check and replace on our own boats. To get you started, the final part of our New Season Checklist is below:
DECK FITTINGS
Visually check stanchions, chain plates and other fittings for movement, if there are signs of damage they might need replacing, if they are on the move they might want rebedding. Check the lashing on the guard rails, that bit of twine will not last foreverer and an early season dip is not recommended. Winches, blocks and cleats love a bit of attention. Servicing your winches will stop salt build up and not only prevent failure but increase longevity.
ROPES & RIGGING
Check the halyards especially the main and genoa halyards which always wear in the same places. Run your eye over the mast and rigging, look for movement in rivets and any broken strands on the shrouds. Take a look at the Rig and Sail Control products, should anything need replacing.
PLUMBING & PIPES
Check and grease the seacocks and inspect the connected pipes. Flush the fresh water system through and apply water treatment.
ELECTRICS
Charge the batteries and check the bulbs and fuses, switch on all the electrics just to check. Consider replacing any faulty bulbs with longer lasting LED's.
FLARES & SAFETY
Check the expiry date for the flares and the life jacket Co2 cylinders and servicing date for the life raft. Fox's will take in your out of date flares when you replace them.
