Medemblik Regatta Nautical Festival - Day 4

by Medemblik Regatta 25 May 2019 11:05 BST 21-25 May 2019

Saturday May 25th, the medal races will be sailed at the Medemblik Regatta. In the RS:X Men Kiran Badloe (NED) is already secured of a gold medal. For the RS:X women the battle for the top spot is on between Dutch Lilian de Geus and Polish Zofia Noceti Klepacka. The current top 4 in the RS:X Youth will battle for the podium spots.

"After the European Championship, we've been taking it a bit easier", says Kiran Badloe. "We did have a training camp in Japan, but nothing really intensive. For myself, it's good to know I'm performing well this week, even without a lot of preparation." His training partner Dorian van Rijsselberghe had the same preparation, but he's not performing so well. "I haven't been performing very well this week. It's great to see Kiran in front, this isn't the event I have to stay in front of him."

De Geus into medal race with small lead

The RS:X Women promises to be an exciting medal race. The Dutch Lilian de Geus goes into the race with a small lead of 5 points to Zofia Noceti Klepacka (POL). Last year, the Polish RS:X surfer had won the event. De Geus: "My first race today was a bit difficult, I made a mistake and lost a few points. But the other races went better, tonight resting and preparing for the medal race tomorrow."

Fabien Pianazza (FRA) builds up is leading position in the RS:X Youth, 12 points ahead of number 2, Leonidas Tsortanidis (GRE). Yun Pouliquen (FRA) goes into the medal race in a third place.

Interesting battle in Musto Performance Skiff

In the Musto Performance Skiff it's an interesting battle between first placed Rick Peacock (GBR) and second Paul Dijkstra (NED). Dijkstra is a bit surprised about his own performance: "Today went exceptionally well for me. I'm sailing in a top 3 with professional sailors only, and I'm not a professional." Peacock didn't have an easy day today: "It was hard work in the shifty conditions."

Dutchies performing well on the foils

The Dutch surfers in the windfoil are doing well. Kiran Badloe is racing a very strong regatta, he's in the lead at the Windfoil surf. Casper Bouman enjoys the flight as well, he is in third place, only 3 points behind French Oël Pouliquen. Bouman: "It's super fun, and even though I haven't spend a lot of time on the board lately, I'm doing really well."

Dutch eSailing competition launched

Today the Dutch National Championship eSailing is launched at the Medemblik Regatta. The Dutch talents, racing in the 49er and 49erFX this week, kicked off the competition by entering the National Championship and racing the first race in the Virtual Regatta app.
