Restronguet Sailing Club 2021 Spring Series - Day 1

by John Calvert 6 Apr 2021 11:57 BST 4 April 2021

Sunday 4th April saw the first racing of Restronguet Sailing Club's 2021 Spring Series. This return to normal Club racing after 18 months was made possible by the Club's Policy for Racing under Covid-19 Restrictions and the current position of the Government's Roadmap out of Lockdown.

Twenty-two boats came to the starting line using a new course configuration, tried only once over a year ago. Oyster was in the middle of the windward/leeward leg, anchored with an all chain rode and an electric windlass - no more hand hauling!

The sun shone all afternoon, although most still sensibly favoured wetsuits or drysuits. A gentle sea breeze displaced the forecast light north-westerly.

Racing got underway on time, but the first race was shortened in order to try to get the second race in before the breeze failed. That nearly worked, but at about 1600hrs the sea breeze did die away, to be replaced by a slightly stronger north-westerly to give an unplanned downwind finish.
