Despite the efforts of Storm Evert and poor water quality in the Marine Lake, Clevedon Sailing Club had a successful Cadet Week, grateful for any sailing after a missed 'Covid' season in 2020.
Eighteen cadets, aged 10- 18, sailed on 3 of the 4 days, some sailing on the sea for the first time. The first day was a test even for the experienced cadets but everyone came off the water with a smile on their face. If you can sail at Clevedon you can sail anywhere!
With an even windier day forecast, they had fun dealing with the gusts and playing sailing games on the marine lake on the Thursday, but on Friday Storm Evert rolled in and the trip to Lady Bay was cancelled.
The usual regatta was postponed on the final day because it was a bit too windy for the younger sailors. The older cadets set off to round the Clevedon Buoy some 2.5 miles out from the Clevedon coast, while the less experienced enjoyed a sail around the bay with the adult volunteers.
The cadet regatta will take place in September, hopefully with better weather so that as many cadets as possible can take part in competitive racing.
