An unseasonably sunny day for the second of SWYSA's Winter Training events, this time held at Starcross Yacht Club.
With three separate fleets of RS Teras, Toppers and ILCAs, it was great to welcome some new sailors to the training. With travellers from as far away as Castle Cove and Fowey, the training is building momentum. This week due to school and other commitments there were 26 sailors, and the fleets were coached separately, each with their own experienced, class-specific coach.
After a briefing and a short theory session ashore, the boats launched to light winds, sun and blue sky. The morning was spent afloat in various light wind exercises., and then towards lunchtime the wind dropped and eventually fell away entirely, so the fleets came ashore for a filling lunch of pasta, sauce and cake. After lunch ashore, the wind had still not come back and so the afternoon was spent ashore working on various boat set up and theory sessions.
Thanks to all the coaches, RIB drivers and crew, and galley helpers.
The next session is 3rd December at Starcross. See www.facebook.com/swterasquad and www.starcrossyc.org.uk/members-home-page
