The wonderful Saltash Sailing Club, with its great organisation and friendly volunteer help, hosted the South West Tera Squad for its first event of the winter coaching season.

12 Teras attended this Squad Session, including nine who are new members of the squad this year. Coached by UKRSTCA coach, Caitlin Morley, the South West Tera Squad aims to help experienced Tera sailors hone their racing skills, and its wonderful to see so many new faces this year.

After a briefing ashore, the sailors launched into relatively light winds for some upwind and downwind boat speed work.

As the wind dropped and the tide increased, sailors came ashore for lunch; and then, in the afternoon launched again. This time the sailing area was upstream upstream of the iconic Brunel railway bridge, where they worked on various tacking, gybing, and roll-tacking exercises, focussed in building techniques to help sail faster.

At the end of the day the falling wind and building tide made the sail back to Saltash Sailing club an interesting challenge! Well done to all the sailors, for some of whom it was the first introduction to tidal sailing.

The Tera Squad is sharing venues this yeer with the SWYSA Topper & Laser fleets, and all together there were 36 young sailors training out of Saltash on Sunday.

A big thank you to Coach Caitlin, and also the parent volunteers; as well as to Saltash Sailing Club who hosted the event.
