As one of the most traditional regattas in the European winter season calendar, attracting sailors from all over the world - 240 teams from 17 nations will tomorrow take to the seas to compete in the popular Christmas Race regatta.
The 29er fleet are excited to be once again joining this regatta and have named it the first Eurocup regatta of the 2024 series which will then stay in Spain until spring - moving to RCN Valencia and then to CN El Balis in February.
Fleets will be based at Club Nàutic Costa Brava-Vela Palamós who hope to grow the regatta over the coming years, welcoming both youth and Olympic classes and growing fleets. Racing will be over two courses, one for single handed classes and a second for the double handed boats - with 4 races scheduled over 4 days for the 29er Class.
As recently announced, the International 29er Class is excited to be collaborating with Sailors for the Sea as the first international and youth 'Clean Class' and with both the 29er Class and the CN Costa Brava-Vela committed to hosting events with sustainability as a focus, this is a fitting first event as part of this partnership. Miguel Aviñó, the Vice President commented that 'the Christmas Race is a pioneer in sustainability', ensuring paperless and plastic free regattas and focusing on a number of key areas to minimise impact on the planet.
Pippa Kenton-Page, 29er Class Executive Director commented, "the International 29er Class are delighted to return to Palamos as part of our 2024 EuroCup series and this regatta serves as the perfect opener to a busy 2024 season of racing. With CN Costa Brava-Vela fully aligned with us, committed to developing our approach towards more sustainable regattas, we are really looking forward to the racing and the collaboration both on and off the water."
