130 young sailors from all over Italy for an event combining sport and promotion of the territory from Friday to Sunday 9 March.

With an official ceremony late in the afternoon on Thursday, the Italian Open Skiff and RS Aero classes opened their season with the 1st National Regatta, a major event for the 2025 sailing season, involving 130 athletes from all over Italy.

The event was inaugurated in the presence of local authorities, including the President of the Campania Italian Sailing Federation Zone, Francesco Lo Schiavo, who for the occasion presented the Mayor of Marina di Camerota with the flag of the 'City of Sailing and the Sea 2025'. A symbolic recognition that celebrates the resort's maritime vocation and the far-sighted vision of the Cilento Sailing Club, chaired by Gennaro Attanasio, which promotes tourism and territorial development through sailing.

A first day without wind, but with great expectations

Although the organisation was ready to start the races, and the fleets went out to sea in the early afternoon, the wind betrayed expectations, remaining below the minimum threshold of 5 knots required for the start. The athletes and the organisers are looking forward to the next two days, hoping that the weather conditions will allow them to put on a show on the water and reward the great efforts of the clubs and participants.

The event represents not only an important sporting milestone for the OpenSkiff and RS Aero classes, but also a great opportunity to promote tourism for Marina di Camerota, which is increasingly proving to be a reference point for youth and national sailing in a truly splendid area.

During the inaugural ceremony of the 1st National OpenSkiff and RS Aero Regatta in Marina di Camerota, held in the late afternoon of Thursday 6 March 2025, the top representatives of the OpenSkiff and RS Aero class Guido Sirolli (President) and Laura Pennati (Secretary) and several local authorities were present. Among them were the Mayor of Marina di Camerota, Mario Salvatore Scarpitta, the Vice President of the Cilento, Vallo di Diano and Alburni National Park, Carmelo Stanziola, the commander of the Port Authority 'Loca mare Camerota Gerardo Balestrieri, Gerardo Principe, director of the Camerota Yachting Service, and of course the President of the organising club Cilento a Vela Gennaro Attanasio.

Although the organisation was ready with many volunteers for the first races, the wind remained below the 5-knot threshold, preventing the start of the competitions. It is hoped that the next few days will reward the efforts of the organisers and participants.
