National Openskiff and RS Aero Regatta - Overall

by Elena Giolai 10 Mar 08:37 GMT 7-9 March 2025

The 1st National OpenSkiff and RS Aero Regatta ended Sunday, hosted in the splendid setting of Marina di Camerota, pearl of the Cilento region. The event, organised by the club affiliated with the Italian Sailing Federation, Cilento a Vela, saw the participation of around 130 boats from all over Italy, marking an important milestone for the club, which for the first time ran a competition of this magnitude.

Weather conditions allowed five races to be held for the OpenSkiff class and four for the RS Aero class, with the last race held on Sunday morning under clear skies and a wind of around 5 knots. The event opened and closed in the presence of the President of the V FIV Campania Zone, Francesco Lo Schiavo, who praised the commitment and enthusiasm of the president of Cilento a Vela, Gennaro Attanasio, and all the organising staff. On Sunday morning, with the regatta course positioned just a few metres from the shore, the public was able to enjoy an extraordinary spectacle: coloured sails invaded the sea of Marina di Camerota, already a protected marine area, offering evocative images and confirming the great potential of sailing as an element of territorial enhancement. An excellent start to the season for the OpenSkiff and RS Aero classes, which had the opportunity to discover new locations where sailing can and must become a protagonist. The final rankings saw athletes from clubs all over Italy, from north to south, on the podium, with local representatives standing out thanks to good placings by Circolo Nautico Posillipo.

It was a hard-fought regatta in the Under 13 category, where Giuseppe Saracino (Circolo Velico Ondabuena Taranto) from Taranto took victory on equal points with Davide De Felice (CN Posillipo), leaving the third position to the Tuscan Gabriele Lizzulli (CNV Argentario), just one point behind. The fight for the podium was tight, with the first three accumulating a 10-point lead over the fourth, Sardinian Bianca Gorgerino (LNI Cagliari), first among the girls ahead of Anna Ruggiero (CN Posillipo) and Elettra Santoro (CNV Argentario) respectively.

Decisive victory in the under-17 category for the Italian-Ukrainian Svyatoslav Yasnolobov (CN Rimini), who with three firsts, a second and a third (discarded) won with 6 points ahead of the Sardinian Giovanni Faggioli (LNI Cagliari); slightly behind, in third place, the Taranto-based Manuel Albanese (CV Azimuth). The first girl from Campania was Maria Elena Barbarino (CN Posillipo), closely followed by Aurora Milanese from Trentino (CV Arco) and Bianca Paesani from Romagna (CN Rimini).

In the RS Aero 5 youth category, Mattia Monti (CN Rimini, 1-4-1-1) took a fairly clear victory, ahead of Chiara Sussarello (LNI Sulcis) and the other Sardinian Enrico Loi (LNI Cagliari). Sardinian hat-trick in the RS Aero category with sail 6: victory for Leonardo Nonnis (LNI Cagliari), also first Youth, ahead of Filippo Vincis and Alice Sussarello (LNI Sulcis). Stefano De Carolis, Roy Van Maanen and Stefano Sirolli of Tognazzi Marine Village (Rome) were the first three in the RS Aero 7 fleet.

The event represented not only a high-level sports competition, but also an important opportunity to promote the Cilento area, underlining the synergy between sport and cultural enhancement.

The next appointment for the OpenSkiff class is for Easter in Calasetta at the headquarters of the Navale del Sulcis, which will host the 1st international Eurochallenge stage, the 2nd national one, while the RS Aero class will compete the following week in the European Championship at the Circolo Vela Arco.
