Transat AG2R - Leg 2 Update

by Offshore Challenges 15 May 2000 12:14 BST

NO. BOATS: 30 remaining
LEG 2: Madeira - St. Barths : 305 miles to go
WEATHER: East-North-East, 5 knots

54 miles in average in the last 24 hours for 'Sergio Tacchini-Itinéris', which represents 2.25 knots in average! Since they left Madeira on the 16th of April, the average speed has never been so slow. The leader is still ahead but the fleet in the south is coming back slowly...

The leading boats are still ahead, even though they had nearly no wind yesterday but the boats that are in the South, like Ireland's Damian Foxall with Franck Proffit on 'Jacques Vabre' or 'Flexipan' (Chiorri/Vittet) seem to have better wind now. 'Flexipan' (Chiorri/Vittet) has been sailing 98 miles since yesterday morning (4 knots).

Located at 300 miles from St-Barths, one thing is sure: The record of slowness in this second leg is definitively won as the skippers are now sailing on their 17th day...The longest till now was 16 days and 9 hours.
