Transat AG2R - First Leg 2 Finishers

by Offshore Challenges 18 May 2000 20:32 BST

NO. BOATS TO FINISH: 24 remaining
LEG 2: Madeira - St. Barths

Over the last 24hrs the rest of the top ten boats have been coming in (see below).

In the final duel between Groupe Generali & Jacques Vabre (Foxall), who after 2620 miles were within one mile of each other right near the end, it was Groupe Générali Assurances (Yann Eliès / Ronan Guérin) who got ahead into 7th, and finished at 9 h 16' 58'' (French time) in 10 knots of wind. Just under 40mins later, in a dying wind of around 5 knots, Ireland's Damian Foxall racing with Franck Proffit on board Jacques Vabre finished at 9 h 53' 24'' (French time) in 8th place overall.

Foxall, the top international skipper finishing this year's AG2R, with Proffit on Jacques Vabre, took 28 days 8 hrs & 53mins at an average speed of 5.52 knots. They arrived 23hrs 02mins after the leading boat.

Just outside the top ten, New Zealander ex-Mini skipper Chris Sayer is due in very soon in 13th place just trailing behind Poupon & Arthaud...a great race for him no doubt.
