Transat AG2R - Leg 2 Update

by Offshore Challenges 16 May 2000 13:33 BST

NO. BOATS: 30 remaining
LEG 2: Madeira - St. Barths : 190 miles to go
WEATHER: East-South-East, 8 to 13 knots

115 miles in 24 hours for Fauconnier & Lemonchois on Sergio Tacchini-Itinéris, which is 4,8 knots in average - twice what they sailed the day before. There are only 190 miles for them to sail now and the top fleet is due to arrive on Wednesday afternoon in St-Barths. Everyone is on emergency rations now as this leg has been the slowest ever.

'Sergio Tacchini-Itinéris' is on a good run catching the wind at 10 knots, allowing the leader to sail this last stretch with more ease. The distance between their boat & the arrival mark is exactly the same as the distance between them and their two principal opponents, Cercle Vert (Morvan/De Broc) Volkswagen Castrol (Béyou/Bidégorry).

The most Southerly boats including Damian Foxall on Jacques Vabre (Proffit/Foxall) are still in the fight, and steadily coming back up the rankings - Damian is back in 8th place and still close in miles to the next couple of boats ahead of him to make a race of the final day.

However, the struggle to end up in the top 10 rankings is going to be passionate...keep your eyes glued to the web as we hope to update the positions regularly from now on until the final boats are in.
