Places going fast for the 11th Windsor Cup Regatta

by Alistair Thompson 13 Jul 2007 18:28 BST 31 August - 1 September 2007

This year’s Windsor Cup Regatta will be held on the 31st August and 1st September in Cowes and places are going fast.

The Regatta, an annual event, is organised by the Jubilee Sailing Trust’s fundraising team.

Sponsored by Henry Schein Ltd the Windsor Cup Regatta is open to any boat with a valid IRC Certificate and any other non-rated cruising boat, which has one or more members of the medical and/or allied profession, pharmaceutical or medical related company on board. There are no restrictions on crew numbers unless specified under class rules.

Henry Schein Ltd supplies a comprehensive range of products and services to the medical profession. It is part of the largest distribution network of healthcare products to office-based practitioners in the combined North American and European markets.

Last year the organisers of the Windsor Cup pulled out all the stops to deliver a fantastic weekend of sailing, raising over £9,000 for the Jubilee Sailing Trust. This year’s event promises to be even better.

The Windsor Medical Society is the longest running medical society in the United Kingdom, formed in 1974. Originally limiting its activities to the Windsor area, it laid on activities and events for all those involved in the medical profession, from doctors to dentists.

Their connection with the Jubilee Sailing Trust started in 1996 by chance, when Sir Stanley Simmons the Commodore of the Windsor Medical Society Sailing Club met a disabled gentleman, who had recently been sailing in the Mediterranean on board STS LORD NELSON. The rest as they say is history.

Since then the regatta has grown and has donated nearly £90,000 to the Jubilee Sailing Trust.

After the weekends racing the organisers hold their Gala Dinner at the Royal Yacht Squadron, which includes the awarding of the Regatta’s trophies.

Tiffany Friend, Events Co-ordinator at the Jubilee Sailing Trust said, “The Windsor Cup Regatta promises to be a really good weekends sailing, which would not be possible without the hard work and continuing support of the Royal Yacht Squadron, the Royal London Yacht Club and Henry Schein Ltd.”

“We are extremely thankful for the support we receive from the medical profession at this event and from our sponsors and with places going fast it important that those who want to take part in this year book their place without delay.”
