A spectacular second day at the OpenSkiff EuroChallenge in Calasetta, Sardinia, with a steady Scirocco wind between 14 and 22 knots providing ideal conditions for three exciting races in the southern course near the Sant'Antioco channel.
The shift to this alternative race area proved highly successful, confirming Calasetta's strategic value as a flexible and competitive sailing venue.
The event, organized by Lega Navale del Sulcis in cooperation with the Italian Sailing Federation and the OpenSkiff classes, is supported by the Autonomous Region of Sardinia, the Municipality of Calasetta, and the Marina di Calasetta.
In the Under 17 fleet, Ukrainian sailor Sviatoslav Yasnolobov remains firmly in the lead after posting a 2nd, a discarded 20th, and a 3rd place. Poland's Powell Sitko climbs to second overall with a solid day (4-1-6), while Italy's Mattia Giusto moves up to third after a 5-2-1.
In the girls' rankings, Paulina Szczes-Depa (POL) continues to lead, followed by Maria Elena Barbarino (ITA).
Among the Under 13s, Italy's Gabriele Lizzulli takes the overall lead thanks to a 1st, a discarded 9th, and a 2nd, now ahead of Giuseppe Saracino and Franciszek Sowa (POL), who remains third. Sofia Benetti (ITA) takes the top spot among the girls with an impressive 2-2-1, earning her a 9th overall.
Racing continues on Easter Sunday with the final three races scheduled to start at 11:00. The OpenSkiff EuroChallenge continues to showcase the excitement and potential of youth sailing in one of the Mediterranean's most scenic and dynamic locations.
