LIGHT WINDS DESTROY WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP HOPES

Another day of consistently light and fluky conditions put paid to hopes of the World Class Performance Mistral squad making the final top twenty at the Mistral World Championships at Noumea in the French Polynesian Islands at the weekend.

Nick Dempsey (Peterborough) and Dominic Tidey (Hampshire) finished in twenty fourth and twenty fifth place overall respectively in the men's Gold fleet, which was won quite significantly by Lars Kleppich (Australia).

Helen Cartwright (Liverpool) and Christine Johnston (Hampshire) also finished one place apart in twenty ninth and thirtieth overall in the women's fleet. Their world title was decided with a race to spare after Barbara Kendall (New Zealand) won for the second year in a row.
