22 boats arrived at Grimwith on 6th September for a close fought day of racing. Race 1 started in light winds, and first to the windward mark, with a good lead were Ben and Natasha Lister (RS200). First topper to the windward mark was Christopher Spencer. Downwind, Lister’s lead was reduced by Nick Mitchell’s Laser, followed by several more Lasers, then Will Crossley and Michael Salt (RS200). The race was won by the Listers, with Nick Mitchell second and Chris Duffin (laser) third. First Topper was Spencer.

Race 2 started in similar conditions, with a good start from Nick Mitchell. First to the windward mark, again with a big lead, were the Listers, followed by Nick Mitchell, then the rest of the fleet, headed by Nick’s brother, Mark (Laser). The Listers maintained their lead to the finish and first Topper again went to Spencer, followed by Adam Larvin. On handicap, first place went to Matt Richardson (Streaker), followed by Matt Winter (Laser Radial), and Jonathan Fowler and Philip Wherry (RS Feva XL).

Race 3 started in a Force 3 to 4, and an excellent start was made by Duffin who led Lister, Crossley and Winter to the windward mark. Despite being obstructed by another boat capsizing in his path, he still led at the finish line, but it was Spencer’s Topper that won the race on handicap, with Duffin second, and Larvin third.

Overall, the Listers won the event on countback, followed by Duffin, Richardson, and Winter, giving Beaver SC three of the top four positions. Spencer won the Elusive Cup for first Topper.
