Climax to Prima 38 season

by Tom Hayhoe 14 Sep 2004 11:19 BST

The Offshore, Coastal and Inshore Series for the Prima 38 One Design Class all reach their climax over the next few weeks.

Rodney Emberson's Bounty Hunter leads the Coastal Series, comprising four JOG Category 4 events plus the Round the Island, from Tom Hayhoe and Natalie Jobling's Mostly Harmless. With wins in the Nab Tower Race and Round Island under her belt, a good result in either leg of the JOG Cowes-Poole and Poole-Cowes races on the 18th and 19th September would secure the series for Mostly Harmless.

While the Army Sailing Association's Longbow was winning IRC 1 in the RORC Cascais Race, Paul King's Serendip was clocking up useful points in the Prima Offshore Series by winning IRC 1 in the Ouistreham Race, finishing 40 seconds ahead of Mostly Harmless. This leaves her in a strong position ahead of the RORC Cherbourg Race on 24th September which rounds off the series.

Guy Spurr's Kylidh has a commanding lead in the Inshore Series, ahead of Mostly Harmless and Oz Privateer which (under charter to the Army Sailing Association after Longbow was damaged earlier in the season) secured the Class Championship at Cork Week and double points towards the inshore series. The final event in the Inshore Series takes place within the Hamble River Midwinter Regatta event on 10th and 11th October.
