The Prima One Designs kicked off the 2006 season with some very tight racing in the JOG Nab Tower Race, the first event of the class coastal series.
Heading down the Solent, Rodney Emberson's Bounty Hunter set the pace, opening up a lead by taking a more northerly course while the Army Sailing Association's Longbow and Paul King's Serendip conducted a luffing match towards Ryde. Hardening up after No Man's Land Fort for an exciting spinnaker reach to the Nab, the odd broach was experienced, a very rare occurence for a Prima with its deep rudder.
By the return leg up the Solent the fleet had split in two groups, with Bounty Hunter crossing the line at Gurnard two minutes ahead of newcomers Tim Pyatt and Nick Barlow in Oz Privateer, only 1 second ahead of Longbow. A few minutes further back, only seconds split Born Slippy, Serendip and Mostly Harmless which had fought back into contention after starting over five minutes late.
