Haven Series Harwich to Crouch Passage Race

Fourteen boats made the early start with an eighteen knot east, north easterly wind and lovely sunshine. It was a tight reach to the Medusa buoy. Morning Star and Rainbow opted for asymmetric spinnakers from the start.
Once round Medusa it was hard on the wind to the North East Gunfleet. The wind then dropped which combined with a strong south going tide ensured only the lead boats could get to the mark in one. Everyone else had to put a tack in against the tide.
Then it was spinnakers up with the tide behind us all the way to the finish. The two J boats; Fay j who came from the Crouch for the race and Jabberwoch found it hard going having to do their angles against the symmetrical spinnakers in the narrow channels of the River Crouch.
All competitors had a great meal in the evening at the Crouch Yacht Club.
