On Saturday 18th August thirty two yachts made their way to the start line at Wadgate Ledge, one mile off Felixstowe seafront.

It was a very hot sunny day with nine knots south-south easterly winds. The start was against the tide and with spinnakers set. The fleet soon split with some boats hugging the shore while others made a more direct route to Orford Lighthouse. After Orford most boats took the inshore route past the Aldeburgh Bank still hugging the shore. Bigwig and Rainbow and the two J boats, Upstart and Fay-J opted to go offshore in search of more breeze.

Fatjax lead from the start but it was Graham Pecks Deliverance 2 took the line honours. Once the tide changed and we were nearing Lowestoft the majority of the fleet caught up and many finished within half an hour of the leaders.

The Royal Norfolk and Suffolk Yacht Club provided a great meal for one hundred and thirty people. This was followed by a prize giving with the winners celebrating Usian Bolt style.

Des Cowan won both the Britannia Trophy and The Walker Challenge Cup.
