Haven Series Races 4 and 5

by Neale Fuller 12 Jun 2012 06:48 BST 9-10 June 2012

Two bullets for Kirkpatrick

Saturday's conditions were very challenging with 25 sometime 35 knot winds. Seventeen boats braved the elements although a few retired. Red Macaw enjoyed the conditions. New Tricks recorded top speed of twenty knots.

Lots of crews enjoyed the 40th Anniversary BBQ at Royal Harwich Yacht Club on the Saturday evening.

Sunday was a much better day with light winds and sunshine. The South easterly wind was around force 2. Twenty five boats started. The Race Officer set a triangular course, leaving himself the option to shorten if the wind died. It was a windward start from Harwich Harbour to Stone Banks.

Class II started first with David Pinner's J80 and the Fuller/Theobald Projection 762 leading. The projection was first to Stone Banks but was soon overtaken by Just For Kicks on the next downwind leg. In the Class I start several boats were over the line and had to return. Fatjax opened up a good lead over Suds and the rest of the fleet.
