Prima 38 Inshire Regatta at Royal Lymington Yacht Club

by Tom Hayhoe 15 Jun 2004 21:22 BST 12-13 June 2004

The Solent Prima 38 fleet moved west to Christchurch Bay for the third event in the class inshore championship, sailed in gorgeous conditions in Christchurch Bay within Royal Lymington's "Beating Up the Bay" regatta.

With the breeze swinging back and forth through 60 degrees, Saturday was a tactician's nightmare. Paul King's Serendip, with Andy Peters on the helm, won race one and Guy Spurr's Kylidh took race two. Race three had a nailbiting finish, with Serendip beating Tom Hayhoe and Natalie Jobling's Mostly Harmless by a mere 7 seconds.

Once the sea breeze filled in on Sunday, the fleet was treated to a vintage day. Kylidh added another first to her tally in race four. Despite having to go round the ends after a premature start, Mostly Harmless recovered to win race five. Mostly Harmless also led much of race six, only to let Serendip and then Kylidh through as the fleet was taken back into the Solent for a final finish off Lymington.

With three events down and only Cork Week (counting for double points) and the Hamble River regatta in the autumn to go, Kylidh leads the Prima 38 inshore series from Serendip with the Army Sailing Association's Longbow lying third.
