SailTime Hamble & Lymington has launched a unique concept for its Members. The Solent Nautical College is a dedicated training business for new and existing SailTime Members.

SailTime offers a sailing membership akin to a club membership, where Members pay a monthly fee to enjoy the use of their boats, and SailTime takes care of everything else. Solent Nautical College will add real value by matching regular boat access to top quality instruction, workshops and events.

Richard Pierpoint, Director of SailTime Hamble & Lymington explains, “The most rewarding way to enjoy time on the water is through learning and mastering a skill set. We believe that the best way to achieve this is through quality instruction and regular practice in conjunction with ongoing guidance and training.

“We are very conscious that obtaining the Day Skipper Qualification is just the beginning of our Member’s yachting experience. With this in mind, we have designed a whole series of practical sessions afloat and shore based sessions, which will run throughout the year.”

Experienced skipper Graeme Johnston joins the team as Chief Instructor and with full RYA Training School status being obtained the College will be able to certify formally RYA Comp Crew, Day Skipper, ICC, and Yachtmaster. Richard Pierpoint continues, “With some 300,000 sea miles under his belt, and having gained both cruising and racing experience in the Northern and Southern Hemispheres, Graeme Johnston is an extremely knowledgeable instructor and the added benefit for SailTime Members is that they will have access to exclusive private tuition at group prices.”

The skills workshops are being launched immediately and are open to all Members, families and friends; provided they are accompanied by a Member. Practical Day sessions on the water will cost £60 per Member (£75 non Members). Evening sessions will cost £20 per Member (50% discount to spouse/child), £25 per non Member, and will be run from SailTime’s Lymington base.

Day sessions will include; manoeuvring under power; manoeuvring under sail; man overboard; sail trim; use of cruising chute; night sailing; and port entry. Evening Sessions will include; navigation; plotter usage; weather and weather reports; auto helm usage; VHF procedures; tides; passage making; International Regulations for the Prevention of Collisions at Sea (IRPCS).

In addition, Graeme Johnston is available for personal tuition on or off the water. The rate per day is £175 (Sail) and £200 (Power) for up to four people, which is unique and excellent value for money.
