#GetOutAndSail POSH Regatta at Paington Sailing Club

10-11 May 2013
Paignton Sailing Club hosted their POSH Regatta, supported by YachtsandYachting.com's #GetOutAndSail initiative, on 10/11th May 2013 in some very exciting weather conditions which set the scene for some fast and furious competition between the single handed dinghy classes. With a less than promising weather forecast, numbers were slightly down on last year, but 54 sailors signed on for what proved to be a challenging first race.
Fleets of Blaze and Phantoms raced together with the handicap fleet of Lasers, followed by RS100s, RS600s and Devoti D-Ones with a solitary MPS. With the wind gusting up to 30 knots, Saturdays racing was cut short after just one race so the competitors retired to the clubhouse for a hot meal of chilli-con-carne and real ale.
Some comments made after the first day were:
"Is there a swimming prize? I think I should get it!" Bob.
"A great day's sailing, all that was missing was the sun" Pete.
"Food good! Seconds and pudding" Martin.
"OMG that was one hell of a gust" Simon.
Sunday's forecasted winds were very accurate, overcast with a moderate force 4 rising to a 5 westerly. With flat sea conditions, PRO Ken Falcon set slightly shorter courses and managed to get in five races, though due to the rising wind, numbers were getting low by the final race.
Quotes from the second day included:
"Great to be back at Paignton; friendly club and superb race course" Huw Powell, RS100.
"Thanks for the slick organisation, five races in under five hours, awesome" Mark Harrison, RS100.
Prize giving was well received due to the #GetOutAndSail prizes donated to the event. With prizes being plentiful, virtually everyone went home with a prize. Huw Powell thanked the organising PSC members for volunteering their time and to Ken Falcon for being the Race Officer for the weekend.
Paignton Sailing Club would like to thank the #GetOutAndSail partners for their support of the event and their donation of prizes.
