#GetOutAndSail - Supporting grass-roots sailing

YachtsandYachting.com and the #GetOutAndSail partners are delighted to announce that the Thornbury Regatta has won the #GetOutAndSail June award.

The Thornbury Sailing Club Annual Regatta takes place on 29-30 June and completely fits in with the #GetOutAndSail ethos. There is racing for slow handicap, fast handicap and cruiser fleets – it really is open to all! The entry fee is just £15 for singlehanders and £20 for doublehanders (half this if you compete for a single day) with a really good value evening meal and free camping. There are prizes for each day and the club is pulling out all the stops to make sure this is a really great and friendly event.

Paul Craig, Thornbury Sailing Club’s Sailing Secretary said on hearing their event had won the award, “Fantastic news! I spoke to our Commodore yesterday evening who was over the moon to hear that we have been given this award. Thornbury Sailing Club is a small club on a special piece of water, that relies on its small but incredibly passionate membership to ensure that we provide a diverse range of sailing activities. We are in the fortunate position in the Bristol Channel, to be able to cater for fast and slow dinghies and cruiser racing as well as a whole host of cruising activities. Our regatta is our real showcase event and in recent years we have seen a healthy turnout from visiting fleets such as the Cherubs, Lasers & Bytes. We have typically had turnouts of around 50 boats and hopefully with the fantastic support of the #GetOutAndSail award we can boost numbers and show everyone the delight of sailing on the Severn Estuary.”

There are some fantastic prizes at the Thornbury Regatta – the club had already organised a range of trophies and, with the #GetOutAndSail support, there are now a whole host of sailing prizes to be handed out to competitors as well. If you’re looking for an event to do on the final weekend of June, then head to Thornbury, take part, get out on the water and have fun!

Final week for July nominations

Surprisingly, July has the lowest number of nominations for events, so why not put your favourite event forward? Remember you can make a nomination for each month and if you’ve got an event you’d like to see receive #GetOutAndSail support then get as many of your friends to nominate it too!

A huge thank-you to our ten #GetOutAndSail partners; Crewsaver, Gul, Harken, International Paint, Navigators & General, Noble Marine, Ovington Boats, Rooster Sailing, Seldén Masts and Wildwind. Without them this initiative simply wouldn't be possible. It is their belief in #GetOutAndSail which will drive it forward and hopefully get more people out on the water.
