YachtsandYachting.com and the #GetOutAndSail partners are delighted to announce the October #GetOutAndSail award winner.
The recipient of this month's award is the NW Senior Travellers' Series finale at Elton Sailing Club on Tuesday 8th October.
The North West Senior Travellers' Series events take place on Tuesdays and are open for anyone over 50 in any class of dinghy. The aims are to increase participation, keep fit & active and meet other senior sailors in the area. Each event has three races, with 2 to count and the series consists of seven events with 4 to count. Entry only costs £5 per event and the idea is for fun racing – exactly the kind of event that the #GetOutAndSail initiative is aiming to support. The current series leader, going into the final event, is Tony Critchley from Bolton Sailing Club sailing a Supernova.
Dave Woodhead, who started the NW Senior Travellers' Series, said, "When I dreamt up the idea of this series, I wasn't sure it would catch on, let alone take off, be a rip roaring success and win a national award. I am absolutely delighted, as will be the prize recipients next week."
Dave is looking to spend some of the award money on purchasing a perpetual trophy for the series. It has certainly grown in stature enough to warrant one!
If you're in the area and free on Tuesday why not come down to Elton Sailing Club to see what all the fuss is about? Dave will give you all the details and you could become a regular competitor in the 2014 series!
Final award for 2013
October is the final month for #GetOutAndSail in 2013. We'll keep you posted about our plans for 2014!
Many thanks to our supporters!
A huge thank-you to our ten #GetOutAndSail partners; Crewsaver, Gul, Harken, International Paint, Navigators & General, Noble Marine, Ovington Boats, Rooster Sailing, Seldén Masts and Wildwind. Without them this initiative simply wouldn't be possible. It is their belief in #GetOutAndSail which will drive it forward and hopefully get more people out on the water.
