Bosham Sailing Club is delighted to have won the July award for its Classic Boat Revival on July 6/7th under the #GetOutAndSail initiative run by YachtsandYachting.com.
Supported by YachtsandYachting.com and some of the top names in the marine industry, the #GetOutAndSail initiative helps grass roots sailing in general by promoting events, raising their appeal, offering prizes and lowering the cost of attending.
Organiser Andrew Young commented, "We are absolutely delighted to not only have been nominated for this prestigious award but to have won is a double bonus. This evolving event was set up by Bosham SC only two years ago and it has gone way past our expectations already, with 80 boats competing last year. We have attracted entries from all over the country and we feel strongly that 'value for money', great racing and fun should always be central to the Classic Boat Revival, a principle I believe we share with the #GetOutAndSail scheme."
Designed to attract owners of the classic dinghy classes to race competitively – classes such as International 14, Merlin Rocket, National 12, National 18, Chi Harbour 18, GP14, Graduate, 505, Albacore, Scorpion, Enterprise, Hornet, Moth, Finn, OK, Solo, Cherub, Fireball, Firefly, FD, Osprey, Snipe, Jollyboat, Sharpie, Yachting World Dayboat - classes that were the mainstay of dinghy racing in the UK in the 60s, 70s and 80s, the Classic Boat Revival offers a fun, competitive environment for classic racing dinghies that may not be in the first flush of youth.
Winning this valuable support package has meant that we can up our game considerably, both in terms of prizes and with a revised entertainment programme – live music parties on both Friday and Saturday nights – and offer a wider range of prizes across the entry list. This year we are also hoping to be able to offer class prizes to fleets of sufficient size, currently the National 18's, Merlin Rockets, Fireflies and Yachting World Dayboats are looking very healthy.
Entry to this year's event is still open and we look forward to welcoming a wide range of boats to come and enjoy some great Bosham racing and hospitality.
