Fifteen Prima 38 One-Design yachts will be racing in their own class at Ford Cork Week this year, with their own dedicated start. With steady sales of this highly competitive 38 footer since 1998 when the prototype ‘Diva’ dominated IRC class 1 at Cork Week the one-design critical mass has now been reached.
Class Chairman Julian Bates and owner of ‘Born Slippy’ commented: “This is great news for the Prima owners and crews and we are looking forward to some close racing. The Primas have been hugely successful in IRC handicap racing but One-Design racing has always been our aim.”
Designed by Stephen Jones and Jonty Sherwill the Prima One-Design was the 1998 RYA ‘Yacht of the Year’. 23 Primas have now been built by Seaquest Yachts in Penryn, Cornwall.
