With an ample South East breeze and copious sunshine, competitors came to the line for the 3rd race in Southampton Water Sailing Association’s dinghy evening series.
Starting prematurely Keith Warwick of Southampton Sailing Club in a Comet Duo opted to re-start. A pity as the father and daughter team otherwise sailed a very good race.
Trapezing upwind Richard Thoroughgood of Weston Sailing Club in a Tornado and William Waddington of Southampton Sailing Club in an International 470 led the fleet to the upwind mark. Positions that both would retain to the finish.
Sailing their own race, father and son team Peter and Alex Lowry in a Mirror Miracle persevered and despite dying wind finished just 2 minutes within the time limit to snatch 2nd place from Bram Sengers’ RS Vision.
Making their series debuts, Anne Chabert in an International 420 and Nic Bakker in a Mirror both enjoyed good racing but were unlucky not to finish within the time limit.
The SWSA dinghy evening Series continues on Sunday 6th June. For more information, please see www.swsa.org.uk
